Converting Leads to Customers
Converting a lead creates a customer record from it, so you can quote, schedule and invoice the work. The lead stays where it is and links to the new customer.
Applies to: all plans. Requires the crm:leads:edit permission.
Prerequisites: Managing Leads and Managing Customers
Converting a lead
- Open the lead from Sales > All Leads or from the pipeline board.
- Select Convert to Customer in the page header.
- Check Customer Details. The Customer Name is pre-filled with the lead's company, or their own name if there is no company. Email and phone come across too.
- Fill in Business Identifiers — ABN (Australian Business Number), ACN and Tax Number — if you are invoicing a business.
- Enter the Billing Address. Leave Same as billing address ticked unless the work is at a different site.
- Under Payment Settings, set the Currency and the Payment Terms — Due on Receipt, or Net 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days. This becomes the customer's default on every invoice.
- Add internal Notes if you need them.
- Select Convert to Customer.
The lead's address does not carry across, so type the billing address in yourself.
When the email is already on file
Email is not a unique key in AxiomBlue — two customers may share an address. So instead of blocking or silently duplicating, the conversion pauses and shows you the existing customers on that email, with their Customer Number and whether they are inactive.
From there you can:
- Cancel, and add the work to the existing customer instead. This is the usual answer for a repeat customer.
- Select Create a separate customer anyway, for genuinely different customers who share an inbox — a couple, or two sites run by the same office.
What conversion does
- Creates the customer record, active, with the details you confirmed.
- Links the lead to that customer, so the lead can never be converted twice.
- Moves the lead to your Won stage, if you have marked one in Pipeline Settings, and records the stage change.
- Adds a note to the lead reading Lead converted to customer, with the customer's name.
What you should see
AxiomBlue takes you straight to the new customer record. Going back to the lead, the Convert to Customer button has been replaced by View Customer.
Conversion does not create a quote or a job. Raise those from the new customer record once you are there — see Creating a Quote.
